MEDIA ADVISORY

Agreement Signed for Belgrave Community Centre

North Huron, ON After a year and a half of working towards a common goal, it was announced at North Huron Council on May 17 that an agreement is in place for the operation of the Belgrave Community Centre to be officially turned over to the newly incorporated Belgrave Community Centre Board.

"This lease agreement has been a long time in the making, and throughout, the Township of North Huron and the Belgrave Community Centre Board have worked cooperatively through the process which included; incorporating the board, writing the by-laws, creating the lease agreement, as well as, putting in place all the steps required to finalize the lease. The Community Centre Board's dedicated volunteers have taken on the responsibility of operating the Belgrave Community Centre which empowers them to deliver programs in a facility that meets the needs of their community. The lease agreement provides a tool to ensure ongoing support of the Belgrave Community Centre from the Township of North Huron, allows the people of Belgrave to operate the facility appropriately, and reduces the burden of the day to day operations of the facility for the Township. Overall a win-win for everyone involved," said Pat Newson, Recreation and Facilities Director for the Township of North Huron.

The newly signed lease gives the day-to-day operations of the facility to the Belgrave Community Centre Board in exchange for $1,000 per month to the Township of North Huron. The Township of North Huron will donate $10,000 annually to the Belgrave Community Centre Board toward Capital upkeep of the facility. The Township of North Huron will donate a further $32,000 annually toward the operations of the facility. All legal fees associated with this process were assumed by North Huron. The Belgrave Community Centre Board, through their volunteers and staff are responsible for all the operations of the facility, building upkeep, and all costs associated with operating the facility.

"This is a good news story for council, for North Huron, for the residents of Belgrave and the Community Centre. I support this 100%" said Pat Newson.
