NORTH HURON COUNCIL AND STAFF MEET WITH BEN LOBB MP

North Huron Councillors and senior staff met this afternoon with Huron Bruce MP Ben Lobb to discuss issues and challenges facing the municipality and ways that Ben can represent North Huron’s interests in Ottawa.

  • The following is a list of many of the issues discussed:
    the need for additional infrastructure funding and other programs to improve the financial sustainability of municipalities
  • opportunities to partner with federal departments and agencies to have the Emergency Services Training Centre  (ESTC) in Blyth deliver programs and courses 
  • the importance of continued federal funding for community economic development agencies  such as the Huron Business Development Corporation (HBDC)
  • downtown renewal initiatives in Blyth and Wingham
  • Enabling Accessibility Fund
  • Campvention 2012 – Blyth Campground
  • the increasing cost of providing services for residents and non-residents
  • the need for industrial land in North Huron and increased immigration
  • airport funding and wind turbine safety
  • the Federal Gas Tax Fund, changes to the Fisheries Act and Navigable Waters Act related to drains and fish habitat

“We value our relationships with our MP, MPP, and key stakeholders, and collaborating with them to improve the quality of life for North Huron residents,” said Gary Long, CAO/Clerk.   “Today’s meeting gave us a chance to update Ben on our current issues and priorities, and the opportunities facing North Huron that will position us for growth and investment.”
