WINGHAM’S FENCE OUR FIELD CAMPAIGN RECEIVES LIBRO GRANT OF $29,650.00

A local group of youth have led the campaign in Wingham to revitalize Riverside Ball Park.  The group learned in a letter from Libro Financial that their recent application to the Libro Community Builder Fund was successful and the group will receive $29,650.00 in funding.

The Project
Riverside Ball Park is one of two ball parks in Wingham.  This youth committee made up of local ball players desire the park to be revitalized by replacing the backstop and fencing, installing a new outfield fence and building a new batting cage.  As ball players they recognize the need for the project as parts of this park are at the end of their lifecycle, making the field unsafe.

Youth Committee
The youth committee is chaired by Dawson Currie, committee members include: Les Irvine, Brad and Jeff Pewtress and Mitchell Newson.  The committee gives extreme thumbs up to Kaitlin Bloomberg, another local youth who assisted the committee in the development of their presentation video which set them apart during their presentation to the Libro Board of Directors.

When asked what this means to the committee. Dawson replied “It’s a huge step for the community and for minor baseball in our area as a whole.  This is the start of big things to come.  We cannot thank Libro enough for what they have done to move our project forward.”

Next Step
The committee is gearing up for a public input meeting to collect ideas and input from local ball users.  They are inviting anyone interested to join them at Riverside Ball Park in Wingham on Wednesday July 24 at 5:30p.m.  They want to hear from local ball players, coaches, ball experts and enthusiasts on how they should best design the new fencing for the ball park to meet everyone’s needs.

Fundraising continues as the youth group is collecting private donations from ball group users, local service clubs and ball enthusiasts who would like to contribute to the project.  Additionally, anyone can help by participating in Libro’s 50 to Give campaign.  Details are on the Libro website www.libro.ca.
