NORTH HURON UNVEILS ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGER
The Township of North Huron officially unveiled it’s new Electric Vehicle Charger (EVC) earlier today in downtown Wingham and were joined by local residents, Wingham BIA members, municipal Council and staff, and Christopher Misch from Sun Country Highway Ltd.
The CS-90 EVC unit has been installed in front of the North Huron Museum located at 273 Josephine Street in downtown Wingham. The 90-amp unit, purchased from Sun Country, provides up to 100 kilometres of travel on a one-hour charge on select e-vehicles. Sun Country has established a web-based navigational tool that enables electrical vehicle owners to route and plan their trips so they’ll know the coordinates of the unit in Wingham. There is also an EVC unit at The Old Mill south of Blyth. The parking space in front of the unit in Wingham has been painted green and there is an EVC sign to clearly mark the space for electric vehicles.
“North Huron’s investment in this technology demonstrates our commitment to the environment and reducing vehicle emissions,” said North Huron Reeve Neil Vincent. “Having an EVC unit in Wingham, and south of Blyth, will position North Huron to benefit from eco-tourism as more people will be visiting our communities and spending time in our downtowns.”
Sun Country is a Canadian-owned company that works to raise awareness about electric vehicle infrastructure and zero-emission transportation. Their aim is to empower Canadians to make choices that promote economic and environmental sustainability and help to green Canada’s highways by fostering a culture shift toward greener living.
“Sun Country Highway is very pleased to partner with North Huron and the Wingham community to provide electric vehicle charging – this will help draw electric vehicles into the downtown region, promoting local economic growth for local while also showcasing the municipality’s commitment to a cleaner environment.” Christopher Misch – VP, Sun Country Highway
