North Huron, ON –The Township of North Huron has been advised by the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA) of pending flood conditions as a result of the significant rainfall that the area received overnight. Higher water levels are expected to reach Wingham by 6pm. North Huron Emergency Services are notifying approximately 150 property owners in low-lying areas. Those residents are being recommended to temporarily evacuate their properties. An evacuation centre has been set up at the North Huron Wescast Community Complex at 99 Kerr Drive in Wingham.
The Township is taking all precautionary measures to protect our citizens, Fire Department North Huron, Wingham Police Service, Public Works and Facilities departments are working to put plans in place to assist residents in the event that flooding conditions escalate. North Huron will continue to monitor the situation closely and keep residents notified as conditions change. Updates will posted to the North Huron website and CKNX radio.
North Huron continues to advise that all areas along the river, including parks and trails will be closed until noon on Saturday, June 24.
