The Township of North Huron was created in 2001 through the amalgamation of three municipalities, the Village of Blyth, Township of East Wawanosh and Town of Wingham. Although the newly formed "Township of North Huron" is fairly young in age, the area was inhabited by indigenous people prior to the arrival of European settlers in the 1830's.
Today, North Huron has grown into a community of more than 5000 residents and provides programs and services to additional 16,000 from neighbouring municipalities. The municipality features a variety of progressive and growing businesses, world renown theatre and music venues, special events and high quality recreational facilities.

East Wawanosh |
East Wawanosh is strengthened by its farming and agriculture industry. The community is home to many farm supply companies, but also has a number of other businesses including greenhouses, farm equipment cooperatives, and automotive parts and repair. East Wawanosh is an ideal location for agriculture processing, service, industrial, and supply establishments. |
Blyth |
The Historic Village of Blyth was established in 1877. It has grown from a rural village serving a local market, to a unique blend of culture, tourism and commerce in the country. Blyth is an award-winning community, with the proven ability to attract large-scale special events to its modern venues, facilities, tourist destinations and historic sites. Blyth is home to the internationally acclaimed Blyth Festival and Thresher's Reunion, two of the reasons why Blyth hosts over 100 times its own population each year. The retail district of the village features a compact commercial core with historic architecture – located within walking distance of all venues. The ambitious community has begun a long-term renewal strategy to develop the “Historic Blyth” theme, starting on Queen Street. A Blyth Business Improvement Area (BIA) was established in January 2012. |
Wingham |
Wingham is a rich cultural centre with an attractive mix of building style and heritage features. There is a diverse selection of service and retail businesses that often collaborate to promote the downtown core with special events. The historic North Huron Museum, Town Hall Historic Theatre, and municipal town office is centrally located with ample parking. The Wingham Branch of the Huron County Library is a community hub in itself and is located downtown just off the main street. Wingham has a wealth of supportive media outlets; the community is home to CKNX Radio Inc., a satellite for A-Channel television, and the Wingham Advance-Times, award-winning community newspaper. In January 2013, a by-law was passed by North Huron Council to establish a Business Improvement Area (BIA) for Wingham. Bruce Stainton has been the chair of the WBIA since its inception. |
