Effective February 21, 2019, the Wingham Police Service officially disbanded and the Ontario Provincial Police have now taken over policing services for the Wingham Ward. With this transition, all locations within the Township of North Huron boundaries are now protected by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)- Huron Detachment located in Clinton, Ontario.

The Ontario Provincial Police online Citizen Self Reporting System tool allows you to report minor crimes. Use this system to report:
- Lost/missing property under $5,000
- Stolen license plates or validation stickers
- Theft from a vehicle under $5,000
- Mischief/damage to a vehicle under $5,000
- Mischief/damage to property (other than a vehicle) under $5,000
- Theft under $5,000
- Driving Complaints

North Huron Police Services Board

With the disbandment of the Wingham Police Service and the transition to the Ontario Provincial Police, the Township of North Huron maintains the North Huron Police Services Board for the Wingham ward. The Board is established pursuant to Section 10 of The Police Services Act and is responsible for the following
- participating in the selection of the detachment commander of the detachment assigned to the municipality;
- generally determining objectives and priorities for police services, after consultation with the detachment commander or his or her designate;
- establishing, after consultation with the detachment commander or his or her designate, any local policies with respect to police services (but the board shall not establish provincial policies of the Ontario Provincial Police with respect to police services);
- monitoring the performance of the detachment commander;
- receiving regular reports from the detachment commander or his or her designate on disclosures and decisions made under section 49 (secondary activities);
- reviewing the detachment commander’s administration of the complaints system under Part V and receiving regular reports from the detachment commander or his or her designate on his or her administration of the complaints system.
