Municipal Elections in Ontario are held every four years on the fourth Monday of October. Where the polling day falls on a holiday, the polling day shall be the next succeeding day that is not a holiday. Under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 the four-year term of office for council and school board trustees starts November 15, 2022, and ends on November 14, 2026.
The most recent Municipal Election was held Monday, October 24, 2022. Voting began at 9: 00 a.m. on October 11, 2022, and ended at 8: 00 p.m. on October 24, 2022. The election was conducted via Internet and Telephone and North Huron saw a voter turnout of 45.9%.

Municipal Compliance Adult Committee |

A joint Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee has been established by the lower tier municipalities of Huron County. The Committee considers applications requesting compliance audits of candidates’ election campaign finances, any resulting auditors reports and the Clerk’s Report identifying apparent contribution contraventions in accordance with Sections 88.33, 88.34 and 88.35 of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996. The Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee is an independent body appointed by Council. Meetings are held on an as required basis if an application is received. Section 88.23(4) of the Municipal Elections Act requires the Clerk to make available to the public a report setting out all candidates in an election and indicating whether each candidate complied with Section 88.25 of the Act. In accordance with Section 88.23(5) of the Act, the report shall be made available on the website as soon as possible after April 30th in the year following a regular election. The Township of North Huron is committed to ensuring that persons with disabilities have an opportunity to fully participate in the Municipal Election with dignity and in a consistent manner with all North Huron electors. North Huron's 2022 Election Accessibility Plan ensures that candidates and electors with disabilities have full and equal access to all election information and services, including the Voter Help Centres. The Election Accessibility Plan sets forth the processes for ensuring this commitment is successfully achieved. The Municipal Elections Act, Section 12.1 (3) requires that, within 90 days after voting day in a regular election, the Municipal Clerk shall prepare a report about the identification, removal and prevention of barriers that affect electors and candidates with disabilities and shall make the report available to the public.
