Measuring Experiences of Discrimination in Huron
Huron County, Ontario – Throughout the month of March, Huron County Immigration Partnership has collaborated with Forum Research Inc. and the University of Western Ontario to conduct a survey on the experiences of discrimination in both Huron and Perth region.
“In order for Huron to better understand how we can make our communities more inclusive, we need to first learn how our residents are experiencing discrimination,” said Warden Glen McNeil. “With this knowledge, we can work towards a greater sense of belonging for all people in Huron.”
Forum Research Inc. will be administering the survey to measure and better understand the experiences and effects of discrimination at the local level. Individuals will be randomly selected and contacted through a phone call. Those who receive a phone call from Forum Research Inc. will be asked to complete some pre-screening questions to determine their eligibility to participate. If individuals are eligible and willing to participate, they will receive a link to the survey through a text message or by email.
The responses will be collected through a secure online survey platform and remain confidential. Participation in this study is completely voluntary, and there will be no compensation for participating. Upon completion of the survey, participants can elect to be contacted for follow up research.
After the collection of responses is completed, researchers at Western University and authorized investigators will examine the data to understand local experiences of discrimination in Huron and other municipalities in Southwestern Ontario.
If residents receive a call from Forum Research, they are encouraged to participate in the survey. Participants are welcome to ask questions about the survey by contacting the lead researcher from Western University, Victoria Esses, at vesses@uwo.ca.
