Ontario Implements province wide Emergency Brake – Township of North Huron
On April 1, 2021 Ontario imposed a province wide emergency brake to curb the surge in COVID case numbers and hospitalizations across the province. The province wide safety measures took effect on Saturday, April 3, 2021 and are expected to remain in place for at least four weeks. The Township of North Huron is asking citizens to follow the imposed public health and workplace safety measures. Indoor and outdoor gatherings are limited to a maximum of 5 persons, except for gatherings with members of the same household (the people you live with) or gatherings of members of one household and one other person from another household who lives alone.
In an effort to comply with provincial orders, North Huron has implemented the following measures:
- The ice surfaces at the Wescast Community Complex and the Blyth Community Centre have been removed
- All indoor recreational facilities including the arenas, indoor pool, fitness centre and courts have been closed until further notice.
- Outdoor recreational amenities including parks, sports fields, courts, trails and municipally-owned playgrounds will remain open provided any person who enters or uses the amenity maintains a physical distance of at least two meters from any other person not residing in the same household.
- The Blyth Campground is closed.
- The Wingham Town Hall Theatre and public washrooms remain closed.
- All Council and Committee meetings will continue to be held through electronic participation until further notice.
- Town Hall will be closed to the public until further notice. During this period staff can be contacted by phone or email. Essential meetings with staff will be arranged by appointment only. Documents are also able to be deposited in the drop box at the front doors.
- Daycare services for infants, toddlers and preschoolers will remain open with restrictions remaining in place. All before and after school programs will be open when schools are open for in-person learning. Before and after school programs will be closed for the spring break planned for the week of April 12.
Reeve Bernie Bailey says, “I would like to thank North Huron residents and businesses for following public health and workplace safety measures. I appreciate these are difficult times but the recent surge in case numbers and hospitalizations is alarming.
